Pollardstown Fen

Though it’s located close to key road and rail networks, Newbridge is also in the heart of an area of great natural beauty. The Curragh, the grassy plain that surrounds the town, is home a variety of wildlife. The Grand Canal passes nearby and the famous river Liffey makes its way through the town before curving its way back to Dublin.

Pollardstown Fen, on the northern edge of the Curragh, 3km from Newbridge, is a perfect example of the peatlands that once dominated the midlands of Ireland. Over its 220 hectares, Pollardstown Fen is a carefully preserved ecosystem and plays home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, some typical some rare. It’s a beautiful place to visit, whether you want to walk or simply to observe the beauties of nature.
